On the right track towards no-fuel energy

Wind energy has come of age and in the new energy paradigm it has developed into a mainstream source of renewable power. Uncertain and volatile oil and gas prices, concern about fuel import dependency, security of oil and gas supplies, depleting fuel resources and the global peak in oil production, as well as a growing environmental awareness and responsiveness, have fuelled this development.

The rapid progress made in wind energy technology in recent years has its corollary of growing technical diversity and complexity in the industry resulting in an increasing demand for qualified personnel.

Towers and Foundations for Wind Energy Converters

International Conference
Simultaneous translation German/English
28. - 29. February 2012 in Essen

It was the wind energy sector which in the middle of 2011 emerged as the mainstay of the renewable energies industry in Germany with 27,981 MW installed capacity and 21,917 wind energy converters. The increasing annual energy yields of modern WECs have improved the competitiveness of wind farms significantly. Towers with hub heights of over 100 metres are a key technology as far as onshore structures are concerned. The forthcoming introduction of the new Eurocodes in 2012 has led to an updating of the DIBt guideline covering WECs (published by the German Civil Engineering Institute) and a revision of load calculations and stability proofs of towers and foundations. The amendments will be presented at the conference.

Drive trains in wind turbines

7th Technical Conference
Simultaneous translation German/English
27. - 28. March 2012 in Essen

For the past several years, the global incremental growth rate of the share of electricity production in rene- wable energies has been continually expanded. The wind energy converter (WEC) market plays a significant role and parallel to Germany, is also expanding in many other countries around the globe.

Due to limited accessibility, maintenance and repair works on WECs are expensive and time consuming, thus, downtime reduces both the energy yield as well as the Return on Investment; therefore, a most reliable and yet economic design of wind turbines is required, which render the greatest exact knowledge of operational capacities possible and secure protection from overloading.

Essen is the place to be...
European Capital of Culture – RUHR.2010

Comprising 53 cities and 5.3 million inhabitants, the Ruhr is the third largest urban agglomeration in Western Europe. Throughout 2010 the region that was once dominated by the coal and steel industry will proudly present both its cultural heritage and the unique success story of its transformation into a dynamic and exciting polycentric metropolis – home of 19 universities, 100 concert houses, 120 theatres and over 200 museums and festivals.

Pits and blast furnaces, symbols of the regions identity, have become economically irrelevant many years ago. Essen's Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex for instance has been turned into a most fascinating industrial monument, serving many cultural purposes and amongst many other things accomodating a design centre of international reputation. Zollverein has been inscribed into the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites and is one of the anchor points of the European Route of Industrial Heritage. Unsurprisingly it was also chosen as the venue for the Grand Opening of RUHR.2010.

RUHR.2010 – Essen and the Ruhr has never been more attractive and inviting. Throughout 2010 more than 300 cultural projects and 2,500 events are waiting for you. Why not extend your next stay at Haus der Technik – HDT and explore this amazing variety?

Located right in the heart of Essen, Haus der Technik – HDT is a symbol and a strong advocate and catalyser of the transformation of the Ruhr to a modern, knowledge-based society since its foundation over 80 years ago. Today HDT is the oldest and one of the leading independent institutes for further/vocational education and training of skilled professionals, senior executives and specialists.

If you wish to receive further information concerning Ruhr.2010 or need assistance with planning your stay, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Our own independent hotel reservation agency will be pleased to offer you rooms at special rates.
